Most people get confused about what a transponder is? On almost every modern car, as early as 1993 Holden Commodores and 1996 in Toyota Camry, they bought in a small computer chip we refer to as a transponder chip (10mm x 5mm) in the head of the key. On some later model cars the transponder chip is generally in the remote key but still acts separately to the remote. That is why we offer our customers the cost effectiveness of just a transponder chip key, usually starting around $88 or the remote key which can be very expensive in some cases.
In almost every case, you don’t need the remote key to start the car, but you do need the transponder key. This also means that someone trying to steal the car cannot without this transponder chip. Only have one key? Don’t risk it, for some late model cars if you lose all your keys the price can be up in the $1000’s. Get a spare key cut at a fraction of the price around the $110-$165 mark depending on the car.

Terry’s Locksmiths can offer a cheaper alternative in the form of a beach key. A beach key is a copy of the transponder key allowing opening of doors only but will not start the ignition, perfect safe to take into the water whilst the transponder key is safe inside the car.
