The genuine remotes are notorious for this, fortunately the aftermarket replacement remote is a high build quality and is a lot cheaper.

Basic ATA remote coding instructions (PTX4)
Press and hold (for the entire process) ‘code’ button on the motor/receiver box, on the new remote select the button to be coded, hold button on for 3 seconds, off for 3 second, on for 3 seconds then off for 3 seconds, now release the ‘code’ button and test remote.
