When you rent a home you have no knowledge of the previous tenants and who has workable keys that can access your new rental home. This is far from ideal, you need to rekey.
Additionally, previous tenants (or there friends) may be aware of vulnerabilities in the various home security measures. This may be as simple as a dodgy window lock. So it is equally important to audit all the home’s protection measures. If you find faulty locking mechanisms raise it immediately with your landlord.
Landlords preferably would use smart lock technologies that allows them to rekey the locks in rapidly for every new tenant. Ofcourse, these technologies are not cheap, and many landlords will shy away from this.
If you choose to rekey your rental home, you will probably need the permission of the landlord. This should not be an issue so long as the landlord is given a set of new keys as well.
Terry’s Locksmiths offers rekey services across the Gold Coast. Call (07) 5601 1820 or visit our showroom at Burleigh Heads or Southport.
