What is a Restricted Key?

Restricted keys are a highly secure method for managing access control in both residential and commercial settings. Only authorized signatories can have keys cut, making it an ideal solution for properties where security is paramount.

What is a Restricted Key System?

A restricted key system can only be cut by the locksmith who owns the system, and only by an authorized signatory on record. This ensures complete control over the key management process and limits the number of keys distributed. Each restricted key system operates as a unique entity, meaning no other locksmith can duplicate the restricted keys without authorization.

How Does It Work?

Restricted keys come with an identification number controlled by the owner, making it easy to track and manage access. To create duplicates, the authorized signatory must either request new keys or provide written permission for another individual to pick up the keys on their behalf.

Security and Compliance

Restricted key systems utilize a complex system of blanks that can only be duplicated by the locksmith upon requisition. It is illegal for any locksmith to attempt to copy or duplicate restricted keys that are not registered to them. While locksmiths can service and repair restricted locks, they must ensure that their actions do not interfere with the daily operations of the restricted system.

Benefits of Restricted Key Systems

  • Complete Control: Gain full authority over key management and distribution.
  • Enhanced Security: The unique “key ways” of restricted keys are designed to be more resistant to picking and unauthorized access.
  • Peace of Mind: Know that only designated individuals can access your property.
