Unfortunately motorcycle theft is a common issue that many face and just because it hasn’t happened to you it doesn’t mean it won’t.
Here are a few items that may help with reducing the risk of motorcycle theft.
Motorcycle Locks:
There are many types of motorcycle locks from chain locks to alarmed brake locks. Alarmed brake locks are the most effect type of lock that prevents the rear wheel from turning and also sounds an alarm if tampered with.
Immobiliser System:
Modern motorcycles will generally have an inbuilt immobiliser that prevents the ignition being started or tampered with. Older motorcycles or small engine motorcycles will need an aftermarket immobiliser system installed.
GPS Tracker:
A GPS tracker is another great investment for a motorcycle. GPS trackers don’t necessarily help with initial prevention of motorcycle theft but may not only help reduce your motorcycle insurance premiums but also can help assist in recovery of your motorcycle in the event of a theft.
Motorcycle Chain:
Motorcycle chains are specifically designed to be cut, torch and saw resistant and coated in rubber or materials to avoid scratching or damage to your motorcycle. The motorcycle chain will generally wrap around the chassis of the motorcycle and attached to an anchorage point and secured by a padlock.
Whilst the above listed items can greatly reduce the risk of motorcycle theft, the most common way motorcycles are stolen are when a van or ute pulls up beside the motorcycle and a few individuals load it straight into the van. Taking notice of your surroundings and the location you store your motorcycle can also reduce the risk of motorcycle theft.
